Court Outreach and Magistrate Process Assistance
ABOUT US
Clemson Court Outreach and Magistrate Process Assistance, called COMPASS, was started in 2025 by a group of Clemson pre-law students with a goal of increasing access to the Magistrate Courts of South Carolina. We want to help citizens by informing them of their rights and responsibilities as they navigate the small claims court system of the state. By helping individuals to seek legal redress through the courts, we help to foster a more engaged and empowered community.

Student volunteers complete a semester-long training period before they can be assigned cases. In this time, students learn more about state law and how to approach cases to provide accurate, practical legal information to the public. Our volunteers are prepared to guide consumers through all steps of a claim from filing to judgement.
